A member of the New York State Police was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of inappropriately touching someone.

Trooper Jason Sears, 39, of Greece was charged with forcible touching, a misdemeanor. He was given an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Rochester City Court at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Sears has been suspended without pay while the investigation is ongoing, troopers said.

No details of the alleged incident were released.

According to state law, "A person is guilty of forcible touching when such person intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose."

The statute includes touching someone for "the purpose of degrading or abusing" or "for the purpose of gratifying the actor's sexual desire."

Forcible touching includes "squeezing, grabbing or pinching."
