State suspends daycare after Buffalo child injured

The State Office of Children and Family Services has suspended the operation of Mozee's Ultimate Family Daycare on Glenwood Avenue as they and Buffalo Police investigate the circumstances related to the injury that left a two-year-old girl in critical condition on Monday afternoon. The suspension is effective immediately.

Buffalo, NY - A Buffalo daycare center has now been suspended from operating by a state agency as it investigates the circumstances of an injury, which left a two-year-old girl at the center in critical condition.

The State Office of Children and Family Services took the action against the Mozee's Ultimate Family Daycare stating the agency "takes all child care program incidents very seriously and will continue its comprehensive investigation of the circumstances surrounding the injuries to this child." The suspension is effective immediately.

Buffalo Police also say their investigation is continuing as well.

Buffalo Police say they responded to a rescue call at the 83 Glenwood Avenue address shortly before four o'clock Monday afternoon. They say the child was "unresponsive" when she was transported from the daycare center to Oishei Children's Hospital. She was still listed in critical condition as of Monday evening.

There were a number of officers and investigators along with a crime scene photographer at the home on Monday afternoon. People were seen arriving at the house later Monday evening after police had cleared the scene. They said they did not want to speak with the media.

A spokesman for the State OCFS told 2 on Your side that the daycare reported the incident to that agency as required under their regulations.

A check of the license for this group family day care operation run by Desiree Mozee Harris shows they had a capacity of 14 children - ages 6 weeks to 12 years. One caregiver is required for every two children under age two.

The last inspection of Mozee's Ultimate Family Daycare was just last month in June and they do have a record of some violations which were listed as being corrected. They were cited for various violations of child supervision last year. But again, all were deemed to have been corrected by the agency and its inspectors.

Neighbors, who did not want to speak on camera, said they were surprised by the police presence at the home on Glenwood Avenue. One man said his own children were well cared for at this location. He said it was expanded to the garage to provide more space for the daycare.
