Seneca Nation honors 4th-grader after she saved the life of a choking student

Aaliyah White was recognized in Seneca Nation council session Saturday for her bravery and quick response.

SILVER CREEK, N.Y. — A fourth-grader in Silver Creek was honored after saving the life of a choking student in the school cafeteria.

Aaliyah White, a Silver Creek Elementary School student, was recognized at a Seneca Nation council session "for her bravery and quick response" in providing immediate assistance to someone in need.

"To act so quickly in a emergency situation shows the characteristics of a true leader. The world needs more people like Aaliyah," Seneca Nation president Rickey Armstrong said, according to a social media post from the Seneca Media & Communications Center.

Aaliyah — who is the daughter of Alexandrea Jimerson and James Logan White — received a standing ovation during the council session.
