Red Cross is helping 2 people following Lockport kitchen fire

Lockport Fire said the cause appeared to be accidental in nature, citing unattended cooking.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Two people are being helped by the Red Cross following a Lockport kitchen fire.

A report of a fire on the 1200 block of West Jackson Street was received around 2:10 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, Lockport Fire personnel witnessed heavy brown smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters then confirmed a fire in the kitchen, above the stove. 

"Within five minutes of arrival fire had broken through a small hole in the roof at the ridge line, above the kitchen," the City of Lockport Fire Department said in a release.

Crews spent roughly 30 minutes putting out the fire, and they were on the scene for two hours.

No one was injured. Lockport Fire said the cause appeared to be accidental in nature, citing unattended cooking.
