Pothole complaints to Buffalo's 311 line double

According to a city spokesperson, since the beginning of the year, the city says its received 960 complaint calls about potholes.

BUFFALO, NY - 2 on Your Side has been covering this brutal pothole season all week - and now, we've got numbers from the City of Buffalo to back it up.

According to a city spokesperson, since the beginning of the year, the city says its received 960 complaint calls about potholes. At this time last year, the city says it got 498 calls.

So, complaints have nearly doubled this year. The city says DPW crews have been all over the city filling potholes, on Fillmore, Bailey, South Park, Delaware Ave and more.

“We have full time crews that focus on potholes year round and we actually have supervisors that go out and do those evaluations as well and put certain areas on as areas that we need to be proactive,” said Steve Stepniak, the commissioner of Buffalo Public Works.

But, travel some of those roads as we did, and you're bound to see or hit a pothole. A city spokesperson says in the last few days DPW has been taking advantage of the dry weather, working overtime to fill potholes.

And, the city has only gone through a small fraction of its cold patch supply so far.

DPW crews so far have used 500 tons of cold patch, they can go up to 30,000.

In April, DPW says they'll start to look at which roads across the city will get a full repaving this summer.

DPW crews have said the frequent freezing and thawing this winter has caused a lot of potholes to pop up.
