BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority says it has worked out two different deals with ridesharing companies Uber and Lyft.
Under the new deal, Lyft will be charged $3 for both drop off and pick up transactions within geo-fence boundaries, according to the NFTA.
The NFTA initially said it would charge a fee of $3.50 fee for each pickup or drop off, and the extra money would be used to support the airport and compensate the NFTA for operational costs.
The NFTA announced it had changed its decision late Friday afternoon.
Lyft originally said early Friday that it wouldn't operate at the airport after the NFTA board of commissioners voted to impose the $3.50 fee for Lyft pickups and drop offs at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and Niagara Falls Airport.
Uber and the BNIA came to an agreement in which Uber will pay a flat fee to the NFTA of $180,000 for a one-year pilot program.
Uber tells 2 On Your Side that it is responsible for that $180,000, but it didn't answer our question as whether that would be passed along to customers, or how that would be passed along if it is.
Lyft has agreed to charge customers the $3 fee.
Uber and Lyft will officially launch in Western New York in less than a week.
