Newfane Public Library staff resigns

The Newfane community is left with questions after library staff quits.

NEWFANE, N.Y. — Has the Newfane Library shut its doors because of staffing?

That seems to be the question people want to know.

According to the agenda minutes from the Library's Board of Trustee's meeting, the board accepted the resignations of Director Sarah O'Shea, Library Manager Amy Wilt, Library Clerks Emily Clark and Colette O'Connor and Phyllis Walker.

In a recent article by Lockport Union Sun & Journal, the newspaper received a verbal statement from  board president Kelly Artieri who said,

"The Newfane Library Board of Trustees is the governing body of the library. We are responsible for policies implemented and are mandated to follow New York State Department of Education law and maintain fiscal responsibility. Sometimes the decisions that are made may not be popular, but are necessary. We respect the choices of our employees. The board is solely made up of volunteers. We will continue to keep the community informed.”

Artieri told the newspaper that she did not know the reasons of why the employees all quit at once, but did say one was leaving due to health reasons.

The library has provided an update as of Tuesday at 12:30p.m. which can be read about here

2 On Your Side left messages at the library's main number during their regular hours, but have not heard back from anyone.
