BUFFALO, N.Y. — More than 230 men and women joined the ranks of the New York State Police on Thursday.

The graduates of the police academy were honored during a ceremony in Albany on Thursday morning.

That's also where Cheektowaga's own trooper, Paul Tripi, was awarded the Investigator Joseph T. Aversa Physical Fitness Award. Tripi earned the honor by recording the highest score among all 232 members in the physical agility test.

Tripi graduated from of Wheeling University with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

This new crop of New York State Police graduates boosts the current amount of troopers to just below 5,000 members.
