"This year has been pretty good for potholes, we've seen a lot of damage," said Brent Franklin, AAA shop foreman. He says vehicles damaged by potholes keep coming into the AAA repair shop on Eggert Road in Amherst.

"We're getting a lot of flat tires coming in because of hitting potholes and what's happening is the rims are getting bent and then the people have a rim leak," Franklin said.

AAA says pothole repair work usually costs somewhere between $250 to $1,000. Drivers are reminded to check their air pressure, beware of puddles, which may be hiding a pothole, and to stay off their phones.

High Street in particular is brutal — parts of the road are deteriorating.

REPORTER: What do you say to residents or taxpayers who may get a flat tire or a bent rim and now have to shell out a few hundred dollars what do you say to them?

"Yeah we certainly sympathize with them," said Mayor Anne McCaffery, who tells 2 On Your Side that the city has identified six roads that are in really bad shape: High Street, Davison, Walnut, Clinton and East and West Ave.

REPORTER: The roads that are the hot spots for potholes they're not going to be cold patched they're going to saved for later in the year for the milling?

"We'll be filling the deep potholes," McCaffrey said. "When you look at the streets that are in really bad shape it's not just a pothole or two or three it's the road has deteriorated and it needs a full resurfacing."

Mayor McCaffrey says that the roads mentioned will get done during the city's repaving program, and potentially more streets, will be done. She says Walnut will be done by the state Transportation Department.
