Law enforcement cracking down on DWI's Thanksgiving weekend

Law enforcement agencies around the state are gearing up to crack down on DWIs this Thanksgiving weekend.

BUFFALO, NY - Thanksgiving weekend is open us, and law enforcement all around the state are gearing up to crack down on DWIs.

New York State Police announced Tuesday they'd have Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement from Wednesday to Sunday. State Police say Troopers will be very visible, and we can expect sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI patrols.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office also announced additional DWI patrols for this weekend, funded through Erie County STOP-DWI.

Here are some helpful tips for a safe holiday weekend, courtesy of NYSP:

  • Plan a safe way home before the fun begins
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver
  • If you’re impaired, use a taxi or ride sharing service, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation
  • Use your community’s sober ride program

And of course, with it being such a busy travel weekend, Amherst Police are reminding residents to "Click it or Ticket!"
