Hochul directs flags to half-staff for fallen Syracuse Officer and Onondaga Lieutenant

Governor Kathy Hochul has issued that flags will be put to half-staff from sunrise on Saturday, April 20 to sunset on Monday, April 22.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — On Sunday, April 14, two Law Enforcement Officers with the Syracuse, and Onondaga County Sheriff's Offices were killed while in the line of duty.

Governor Kathy Hochul has issued that flags will be put to half-staff from sunrise on Saturday, April 20 to sunset on Monday, April 22.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and it is a tragedy when they are taken from us too soon while in the line of duty,” Governor Hochul said. “Lieutenant Hoosock and Officer Jensen were two of our best and my thoughts are with their loved ones as we grieve with them.”

Onondaga County Lieutenant Michael Hoosock had been a public servant for more than 20-years, and served as a volunteer firefighter with the Moyers Corner Fire Department. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and many other loved ones.

Syracuse Police Department's Officer Michael Jensen had joined the department in February of 2022. He was recently awarded Officer of the Month in December 2023. He leaves behind his parents, siblings, and many other loved ones.

The funeral services for Officer Jensen will be held on Saturday, April 20.

A live stream link will be available for Officer Jensen's funeral services which can be found here

The Syracuse Police department wrote on their Facebook page that "If the public wishes to pay respects, we strongly recommend using the livestream to watch funeral services remotely, as space in and around the church will be extremely limited."

Lieutenant Michael Hoosock's funeral services will be held Monday, April 22 at the State Fair Expo Center. A processional will follow, and calling hours will be held in private.

Donations can be made to the families in honor of both Lieutenant Hoosock and Officer Jensen by clicking here. All proceeds will go directly to both of the families.
