Do the Falls really freeze?

It happened once, 100 years ago.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — As sure as the cold weather comes to Western New York every year, so too do the stories about Niagara Falls freezing over.

Although parts of the falls do freeze during the course of the winter, the water, for the most part, continues to fall.

However, the stories of the Falls freezing persist. Photojournalist Dooley O'Rourke went to the icy wonderland to check it out.
