Centennial Park, Erie Basin Marina reopen after wind, high water concerns

There was also flooding at Canalside in Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — High winds, and resulting high waves and water levels, caused problems along Buffalo's waterfront Sunday morning.

The Buffalo Police Department closed Ralph C. Wilson Jr., Centennial Park and the Erie Basin Marina to drivers and pedestrians as a safety precaution.

Both were closed around 8:30 a.m. They reopened at 3 p.m.

Police said Centennial Park and the Erie Basin Marina were closed so that crews could clean up debris.

The extreme weather also caused flooding at Canalside. High winds pushed water levels higher in the replica canals, and water flowed up onto sidewalks and surrounded benches.

The Ice at Canalside is also closed Sunday due to flooding.
