WNY gets ready for weekend snow storm

From Orchard Park to Buffalo, crews are ready to tackle the snow.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — People across Western New York are getting ready for this weekend's snow.

At Highmark Stadium, where Sunday morning there are going to be a lot of tailgaters ahead of the game, it isn't going to look like November of 2022 when Hamburg and Orchard Park got slammed with historic amounts of snow.

But on Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for the New York State DOT told 2 On Your Side that its crews are working through the weekend by first pre-treating Routes 20, 20A, 62, 179, and 219 near the stadium, then plowing as the snow falls.

The NYS DOT will also have additional plows working around the stadium during the game, and there will be a towing contractor ready to help if needed so fans have an easy time leaving after the game.

Here's what the Governor had to say Friday afternoon ahead of the storm as she declared a state of emergency.

"For my Buffalo Bills fans, here's the advice. If you have tickets to the game, listen to the forecast, drive safely back and forth. We don't anticipate changes right now, but stay tuned because the weather, Mother Nature, is wildly unpredictable. If you don't have a ticket, you just wanted to come out and have some fun, this might be a better day just to sit home and open up, bring out the six pack as has been advised by leaders in the past, and watch the game from home. It will be a lot safer and a lot warmer for sure," said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Just a couple of hours ago, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown also told reporters at a press conference that the city is ready to handle the storm by preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

But again, if you're going to the game, pack your patience. and your snow brush because you're probably going to need it after the game.

🚨BUFFALERT: Please be prepared for high winds, snow & falling temps. Winds will begin to increase tonight. Make sure your home & vehicle are ready with the necessary items.
