Lloyd Taco Truck Wins Big on Restaurant StartUp

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo foodies know the question: Where's LLoyd?

On Tuesday night, the answer was national television.

The popular Lloyd Taco Truck took part in a new CNBC show called "Restaurant Startup."

It premiered Tuesday night at 10 p.m.

If you've ever wondered, "WHO is Lloyd?" the show answered that question, too.

Their television debut is the latest in a trend of success Lloyd Taco has enjoyed since it first started growing years ago.

The business started with one truck. In 2011, they lobbied for city laws that would allow them to keep operating, and today they have three trucks, a fourth on the way, and a restaurant in the works.

The two owners, Peter Cimino and Chris Dorsaneo competed for financial backing on the show, and they won.

Cimino told 2 On Your Side by phone Monday night how it all came to be.

"It was pretty random. I was just watching an episode of Shark Tank and kind of in passing, and a commercial popped on about this new show, Restaurant Startup," he said. "When you have reality TV coupled with competition, and timing and cooking and stuff, it's a whole different ballgame."

They hosted a free viewing party Tuesday night at the North Park Theatre.

"Just making it to Hollywood is a huge win for the city in general, and I hope we can make people proud," Cimino said.

In Tuesday night's episode, best friends Peter and Chris went up against a couple with taco trucks in New Orleans and Chicago. They competed for money to launch a pop-up restaurant on the show. Peter and Chris won that competition and won over the investors with their food and concept.

We asked them what it was like representing Buffalo on national television.

"It's reality TV, you know, but I think it's even crazier reality TV once you combine cooking and deadlines and things when you're under the gun. So, I mean, we couldn't even go to the bathroom without a camera on us. It's a pretty unique environment to be working in," said Cimino.

"It was really surreal. It was awesome. It was great to be in LA. It was great to experience the whole taping even though it was very stressful, but it's going to lead to a lot of great things for Buffalo in general," said Dorsaneo.

At the end of Tuesday's episode, it was revealed that the restaurant will open this April.
