Lancaster carnival ride shut down after riders get stuck in the air

A ride at Lancaster's 4th of July Carnival will remain closed for the duration of the weekend, after riders were stranded up in the air Saturday evening.

LANCASTER, N.Y. - A ride at Lancaster's 4th of July Carnival is now closed for the long weekend, after malfunctioning and stranding riders 40 feet off the ground.

Lancaster officials tell 2 On Your Side that a computer glitch kept causing the "Skyflyers" ride to stop, while riders were up in the air. We were alerted to the problem by a number of concerned parents, who say their children were stuck for about an hour Saturday evening.

Inspectors came out to take a look at the ride, and decided to shut it down for the rest of the carnival, as a precaution.

Village officials tell us every ride had to pass a state inspection before opening to the public. The "Skyflyers" ride is operated by Midway Rides of Utica.

All the riders who were stuck on Saturday were safely brought to the ground without incident.
