UB study looks at dementia in NFL, NHL players

The results of a new study from the University of Buffalo Tuesday morning were a bit surprising.

BUFFALO, NY - We've reported on the dangers of brain injuries from sports like football and basketball a lot over the past few years. So the results of a new study from the University of Buffalo Tuesday morning - were a bit surprising.

Researchers there looked at several studies of pro-football and hockey players to try to find whether retired players were more likely to experience early onset dementia than people who didn't play.

But they didn't find any significant difference, which was the opposite of what they expected.
