Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz is urging residents not to call 911 unless it is a true emergency, so that there is no undue stress on the emergency medical response system. Poloncarz says if you don't have an actual emergency you should be calling 211.

Erie County officials say any senior citizens who have concerns about not having enough food can contact the Department of Senior Services for Meals on Wheels deliveries. Senior Services can be contacted weekdays between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by calling (716) 858-8536.

The Erie County executive also gave an update about testing on Tuesday, saying the Erie County Department of Health can only do 80 to 100 tests per day. Poloncarz says this is an international problem, that test kits are in short supply.

Poloncarz also provided a breakdown of positive cases of COVID-19 by age and gender in the county.

Based on current information gathered by the health department, more females under the age of 50 years old have been diagnosed with coronavirus than males. However, more males over the age of 50 years old have been diagnosed with COVID-19 than females. Poloncarz stressed that COVID-19 can strike any age group, either gender, race or ethnicity.
