Tractor-trailer, dump truck involved in Niagara County collision

The dump truck driver was extricated, then taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries.

PENDLETON, N.Y. — A tractor-trailer and a dump truck collided Friday morning, prompting a road closure in Niagara County as crews cleaned up diesel fuel.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Campbell Boulevard and Lockport Road in the Town of Pendleton. Niagara County Sheriff's deputies who arrived at the scene found the dump truck leaning on its side and the driver trapped inside.

"Both vehicles were leaking fluids, and the dump truck was leaking a significant amount of diesel fuel onto the roadway," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The dump truck driver was extricated, then taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries.

An initial investigation by the sheriff's office shows that the tractor-trailer failed to yield the right of way to the dump truck, resulting in that driver being issued five traffic tickets.

The road remained closed for some time to allow for the cleanup of diesel fuel and the officials' investigation.
