A couple of ECHC employees seriously injured after inmate incidents

Two jail management division employees at the Erie County Holding Center were injured following separate incidents on Tuesday.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — Two jail management division employees at the Erie County Holding Center have been reported as injured following separate incidents that occurred on Tuesday.

The first incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., when an incarcerated individual stole a sandwich from a food tray and was confronted by the employee.

After telling the inmate to return the sandwich an altercation broke out, causing the employee to suffer from both neck and shoulder injuries. The employee was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where they were treated. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Later in the evening that same day, around 5:20 p.m., an inmate had refused to lock in their cell. After numerous attempts to be told to lock in, the inmate ignored the requests and began throwing punches at the employee.

Due to being struck by one of the punches, the employee was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for both head and knee injuries. The inmate was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
