Cheektowaga Police give update on Dean Road incident

Dispatchers had received a call around 9:30 a.m. of a male with a gun entering a home in the Town of Cheektowaga.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Following the Cheektowaga Police Department telling residents earlier in the day along Dean Road to remain inside of their homes, they have now let people know that the situation has been handled and the area is safe for residents.

Dispatchers had received a call around 9:30 a.m. of a male with a gun entering a home in the Town of Cheektowaga. The female resident who had made the call fled to a neighbor's house, but the man fired a shot, hitting a microwave.

The man then barricaded himself into a bedroom in the home, and refused to come out.

Police had arrived soon after the victim's 911 call and surrounded the house in the case that he may try to flea the scene. SWAT members then were able to get inside safely and found the suspect, who had died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

The 2two people involved were former boyfriend and girlfriend.

2 On Your Side has a news crew on the scene. As we gather more information, we will continue to update the story.
