BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Erie County Sheriff's Office says a Cheektowaga woman is charged with DWI after her blood alcohol count registered more than four times the legal limit.

Laura Zaranek, 54, is charged with DWI, refusing to take a breath test, and unsafe lane change.

Deputies were called to Bullis Road in Elma on January 6 for a report of an erratic driver. The vehicle was located on Clinton Street with a female sitting in the driver's seat.

While police were speaking with the driver, they say they detected a strong odor of alcohol.

Officials say Zaranek failed multiple field sobriety tests and a preliminary BAC registered more than four times the legal limit. She was taken back to the substation, where deputies say she refused to submit to a chemical test.

Because of the high BAC, deputies say Zaranek was admitted to ECMC for treatment.
