BUFFALO, N.Y. — Before getting a law degree from the University at Buffalo, Ifeoluwa Popoola practiced law in her native country Nigeria for three years.

She moved to Buffalo in 2016, passed the bar exam in 2020 and has been an assistant attorney for Erie County since 2022. This year, she became president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York.

“I was starting law school here, I didn’t have any family and had never been in the legal system in America before,” Popoola said. “It was like jumping in the ocean with no information.”
