BUFFALO, N.Y.- One of downtown Buffalo's most popular spots for a quick, cheap lunch is also in one of its most unique settings.
Fables Cafe is set among the stores of knowledge at Buffalo and Erie County's Central Library in Lafayette Square. The crowd ranges from professionals on lunch breaks to readers looking for a meal while digging into books, but all leave satisfied.
The cafe is set very close to the area of the library where many guests give lectures, speeches and demonstrations, a big draw for customers.
The literary-themed menu includes sections titled "thirst for knowledge" (drinks) and "novel sandwiches." But eaters will find familiar lunch staples and popular combos like the "trinity": soup, salad and sandwich.
Manager Brandon Penders says the most popular items are the various soups, which sell "hand over fist" at all times of the year, summer or winter. He also says the draw of the cafe is the "people watching" thanks to the colorful cast of characters you'll find in the library.
