Local grocery store ranks high on customer satisfaction list

Wegmans scored an 82, along with BJ’s Wholesale Club, Whole Foods Market, and Target.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Western New York grocery chain is ranked as one of the best grocery stores for customer satisfaction. 

Based on a recent survey conducted by the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Wegmans ranked 8th on the list, scoring an 82. 

This year, Wegmans was up against 19 other grocery companies in the country, plus some smaller stores.  ACSI reaches out to customers across the country to gather their opinions on well-known supermarket chains. The 2024 results are based on information that was collected from January to December 2023. 

 They tied with with national chains, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Whole Foods Market, and Target. 

According to the survey, the ACSI took into account factors like store hours, location, meat and produce freshness quality, store cleanliness, checkout process speed, and website satisfaction.  

ACSI says US customer satisfaction overall is at a record high. especially in the fourth quarter as inflation came down and stocks rose. 

Last year, Wegmans scored an 80, growing 3% since last year's survey.  

Wegmans was  founded by brothers Walter and John Wegman in Rochester in 1916.  It now serves over 110 communities. Wegmans is one of the largest private companies in the U.S., according to its website. 

Some of the top trends they saw that improved the customer experience in grocery stores was: 

  • Convenience of store hours
  • Ease of pick up process
  • Accuracy of order fulfillment for pick up
  • Convenience of store location
  • Quality of mobile app
  • Ability to provide brand names
  • Quality and freshness of meat and produce
  • Reliability of mobile app
  • Website satisfaction
  • Layout and cleanliness of store
