BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Soulful Christmas was held in the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor.
Kente Claus stopped by the Black-owned business holiday market for a free toy giveaway on Saturday.
"There's a lot of history," Terry Alford, the executive director of the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor, told 2 On Your Side.
"We tell a lot of stories 365 days a year, so it's a vibrant community that celebrates business and neighborhoods that are historic in this corridor. This is just one activity that really symbolizes that those great things are happening with us."
The event was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and it provided a look into the cultural significance and impact into Buffalo's history.
The corridor says free family activities like this help to bring joy to the whole community during the holiday season. There was also art activities for children, horse-drawn carriages, and musical performances by the Colored Musicians Club.
A tree lighting ceremony was held Friday night.
