BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's almost Valentine's Day so it's time to celebrate all things red, pink, and sweet!
Out 2 Eat stopped into a Lola's Bakery, located inside the Lunch Box at 465 Main Street in downtown Buffalo.
"Lola's is named after our oldest child Lola, she's our daughter," co-owner Ben Kestner said. "At home she always likes to help out in the kitchen, and she always wants to have fun trying to help us with the recipes, so we designed it with this glass, so the guests could sit there and see the bakeshop and really inspire that fun, whimsical nature of our daughter."
Lola was at school when we visited, so we were the ones helping out out in the kitchen, with the Valentine's Day specials, including strawberry glazed cinnamon rolls.
"Our cinnamon roll has always been a really big seller here at the bakeshop," Kestner said. "It's a brioche cinnamon smear inside, they slowly rise to get a nice light interior, and then on the outside we have a nice strawberry glaze with some fresh strawberries to finish it."
Lola's also has classic heart-shaped cutouts, homemade Oreo cookies, fudgy heart-shaped brownies, and their newest treat to hit the menu, maritozzi.
"Maritozzi, so that's an Italian or Roman treat," Kestner said. "A lot of time's it's eaten for breakfast alongside an espresso in Rome, and it's our brioche dough, the same dough that we use for the buns, and then it's filled with a sweetened cream, and we garnish it with pistachios, chocolate chips, or sprinkles."
Lola's is open Monday through Friday and all of their Valentine's items are available for pre-order.
