Parks, patios, and playgrounds: Where Western New Yorkers are soaking in the warmth

Unseasonably warm temperatures to start the week had WNYers taking advantage wherever they could.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The playground outside Lafayette Church was the place to be Tuesday morning in the Elmwood Village.

"It's been great, we're walking down to the library, we might stop for smoothies, and we'll probably come back to the playground," Katie Diminuco said as she walked by pushing a stroller. "We're just kind of seeing where it takes us in the sunshine."

A bonus was that it didn't take as long to get the kids moving.

"They seem very happy," she said. "It didn't take forever to bundle them up to get out the door, so that's nice. She's not fighting to keep her mittens on, so it's a good day."

Over at Hoyt Lake, Cody the beagle and his dad David Estrada were soaking in the warm weather from their favorite spot.

"Oh he was excited, he loved it," Estrada said. "He's always indoors so he's loving the weather."

Downtown, Elyse Wittlinger and her co-workers were looking for an outdoor table for eight downtown.

"Our whole team is just going out to lunch, honestly because the weather is so nice we're trying to find a patio."

Frankie Primo's +39 Owner Jay Manno was happy to entertain the crowds Monday and Tuesday.

"We were busy. The patio was busy all day, it was great," he said. "It was a great vibe, it made me very happy to get out of my car and see people already sitting outside at lunchtime. You know, we're having spring again."

Back at Delaware Park, they were able to open up the golf course again on Tuesday morning.

"It's just pleasant. I've never seen this during my time in Buffalo. I think I've been here about 28 years," said Rodger Hodgins of Kenmore, originally from Mississippi, who was able to get nine holes in before noon.

"People are just so excited to be able to play golf in March. We want to give them the opportunity," Director of Golf Chris Carroll said. "We started this last year for the first time and the response was tremendous, so we're just trying to make the golfers happy again."

Carroll says between fifty and sixty people golfed Monday, and he was expecting the same number Tuesday.

"It's dry as a bone out there, " he said. "We've got flags in the greens that have been taken care of. So yeah, come on out enjoy the weather."

The golf course will be open the rest of the week weather permitting from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

It's $10 a round and you don't need a tee time.
