Buffalo State fashion show tackles an eclipse theme

The fashion department at Buffalo State University is preparing for its biggest night of the year.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The fashion department at Buffalo State University is getting ready for its biggest night of the year.

"Runway is our annual fashion show here at Buff State in our Fashion Textile and Technology Department," faculty director Erin Habes told 2 On Your Side.

"This is the student work of all of our students. They've been working hard all during the semester to get to this show, which is this Saturday in the Sports Arena."

The show is a pretty big big deal on campus, and this year they drew inspiration from another big recent event.

"The theme this year is 'True Delusion,' and we were inspired by the total eclipse that just happened about two weeks ago," Habes said. "It's been the year of totality here at Buffalo State University, and so it was the perfect theme to have our students be inspired by."

Junior Kamryn McEachin used that as a jumping off point to create four looks based on protective gear, from a motorcycle jacket to a football uniform and a star shield.

"For this year's theme of true delusion, you're going to need to wear and to view the eclipse," she said. "Protection was just like a middle word for the eclipse and true delusion."

She can't wait to finally see her pieces walk the runway.

"All I have to make now is my outfit which I'm still working on," she said. "I've been putting in the work, multiple hours. I've been in school from like 9 to 9 every day."

Senior Kerrington Jackson feels the same way.

"I think it will feel really good," she said. "We were practicing getting our steps down, and I'm excited to see how everything looks all together."

She's has been working on her four designs nonstop for the last two months.

"Every year it's kind of what we look forward to for the springtime, and it brings everybody together," she said. "Everyone's working hard, whether it be the designers, the models, the production team everyone is just kind of hands on and really helpful to each other. "

They're expecting a crowd of 1500, and tickets are still available for $20

"It's the glitz, it's the glamour, it's the excitement of fashion," Habes said. "It's the student work on display. So we kind of take it like it's Project Runway comes to life here at Buffalo State."
