Summer guide to events at Canalside and Outer Harbor

If you're looking for fun things to do this summer with family or friends, Buffalo's Canalside and Outer Harbor is the place to be.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Waterfront has announced the 2024 summer season event lineup for both Canalside and the Outer Harbor. 

“We have some great opportunities for Western New Yorkers and visitors to come out and enjoy our city’s beautiful waterfront this summer,” said Lauren Ford, general manager, Buffalo Waterfront. “We’re looking forward to an exciting concert lineup at the brand-new Terminal B venue, as well as new food and beverage options at Canalside and returning fitness classes and family programming.”

Canalside Events

There will be a 'soft opening' for Canalside the weekends of May 10-12 and May 17-19 with the opening of Resurgence at Canalside and Nick Charlap's Ice Cream, which is opening at the former Clinton's Dish and ice cream kiosk on the boardwalk. 

The carousel will also be open. The cost for a ride is $1.

Regular hours and activities for Canalside will begin Friday, May 24 and run through Labor Day weekend.  The Buffalo Boat Tours, BFLO Harbor Kayak, Water Bikes of Buffalo, Canalside Caricatures and Buffalo Bike Tours will reopen Memorial Day weekend. 

The replica Erie Canal 'Seneca Chief' boat will have an official inauguration on May 25 at 11am.   The Longshed is currently undergoing renovations for a new museum and visitor experience. 

The Beach at Canalside will have wooden sandbox boats and the Great Lawn and Boardwalk will now have corn hole, shuffleboard and chess/checkers/backgammon game tables.

  • The Pride Festival is June 2
  • Family FriYay! begins June 28 from 11am-5pmwith Explore and More Children's Museum. 
  • Canalside Children’s Book Fest on June 29.
  • Touch a Truck by Explore & More will be held July 28
  • Asian Food & Culture Festival on Aug. 11
  • Festival of India to be held Aug. 17

There will also be fitness classes at Canalside, including Zumba, yoga and salsa classes.

Outer Harbor Events

The  Seneca Casinos Outer Harbor Concert Series begins May 24 with a sold-out  Chappell Roan show at the new Terminal B at the Outer Harbor.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will have two free shows – the BPO & The Magical Music on Harry Potter on July 19 and the BPO featuring The Strictly Hip on Aug. 1. While the concerts are free, you will still need to make a reservations to attend the shows.  You can do that here: www.outerharborlive.com.

Fitness in the Parks begins June 3 is temporarily moving from Wilkeson Pointe, which is currently under construction, to Terminal B.

Terminal B will also be hosting several events: 

  • GObike’s annual SkyRide July 21,
  • Buffalo Irish Festival July 26-28.
