Walking in memory of an East Aurora 19-year-old

The 2.8 for Nate Foundation is inviting the community to join them in a walk to honor a 19-year-old boy who lost his life to cancer in 2020.

EAST AURORA, N.Y. — A local non-profit will be walking for a good cause at the end of May, and is inviting the community to join them. 

Happening on Saturday, May 18 the 2.8 for Nate Foundation will be honoring the life of an East Aurora 19-year-old Nate Ljungberg who sadly lost his battle with Ewing Sarcoma in September of 2020.

Ewing Sarcoma is a type of bone cancer that typically is found in children and young adults according to JohnsHopkinsMedicine.org. It is the second-most common type of bone cancer and approximately 225 children and adolescents are diagnosed with it in the U.S. each year.

In honor of the legacy that Nate lived, the foundation will be hosting the walkathon to raise funds for causes that were important to the 19-year-old such as scholarships for East Aurora High School, East Aurora lacrosse programs, research for Ewing Sarcoma, and P.U.N.T. the pediatric cancer collaborative in WNY.

All proceeds raised will go directly to those causes mentioned above. The event will also feature chicken BBQ dinners for purchase, a basket raffle, and yard games. 

Those getting a chicken BBQ dinner can purchase them to eat while at the event, and also for to go. Dinners cost $15 presale before May 17, and $17 on the day of the event. 

People planning to attend are encouraged to arrive at Parkdale Elementary School in east Aurora at 10:30 a.m. if participating in the walk. Chicken BBQ dinners will begin to be served at noon with the basket raffle to follow.
