Unique Eats: Say Cheese Pizza & Comic Book Cafe

Zachary Kineke checks out this pizzeria and bar decked out in a regalia of comic book characters and memorabilia.

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y.- It's not a common experience to share your dinner with Batman, Boba Fett and Thor.

At Say Cheese Pizza Company & The Comic Book Cafe, they call that Tuesday.

The truly unique dining experience in Grand Island grew out of owner Kevin Slachciak's lifelong love of comics. Eight years ago, he decided to marry that idea to his pizza shop that had already been around for two decades.

"It was a little bit unusual," says Slachciak. "A lot of people thought it was crazy, but it's taken off pretty well. It's done pretty good for us."

What might surprise the first-time diner is that all of the decor is for sale- the mini figurines displayed high on the wall, the rare comic books in the cases in the back, the comic book wallpaper, even the nine-foot-tall statue of the Incredible Hulk near the pizza window.

And along with the unique atmosphere, the food doesn't disappoint- Say Cheese offers standard pizzeria fare with a twist, like unusual wing flavors from spicy parmesan to peanut butter and jelly. Unique Eats also enjoyed the sausage and pepper pizza and the burgers, especially the cajun-spiced "hot fries" on the side.

When you see kids come in here and the smiles and excitement on their faces, it's awesome," says Slachciak. "Even people who don't know who Captain America is or Spider-Man is, they like it because it's something unique and fun to look at."
