Hamburg man named grand marshal for St. Patrick's Day parade

Patrick McGuinness says his parents are from Ireland, and his family has been a part of the parade for years.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Less than two months away from St. Patrick's Day, Western New York learned who will be the grand marshal for the parade down Delaware Avenue.

Patrick McGuinness from Hamburg was announced as grand marshal on Sunday morning.

He says his parents are from Ireland, and his family has been a part of the parade for years, so he has great memories of it.

"I remember one time when it was 60 degrees and I was on the back of the float, and I looked out, and all I could see was a sea of people, and it was fantastic," McGuinness said. "It brought Buffalo together. This is a huge honor. It's a once in a lifetime thing, and I'm very blessed to receive this."

This year's downtown parade is scheduled for Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m.
