Bills sign Mike Edwards to a 1-year deal

Edwards has won Super Bowls with the Chiefs and Buccaneers.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are adding some championship experience to its secondary.

Buffalo announced Wednesday the signing of safety Mike Edwards on a one-year contract.

The University of Kentucky product has played five seasons in the NFL, spending the first four with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. Edwards has two Super Bowl rings on his resume, winning one each with Tampa Bay (Super Bowl LV) and Kansas City (Super Bowl LVIII).

As part of the Chiefs' title run this past season, Edwards played in all 17 games, making five starts including starting in all four playoff games. He finished the season with 51 tackles, one sack, one interception, and two fumble recoveries.

According to the Bills, Edwards is tied for the second-most defensive scores in the NFL since 2021, with three interception returns and one fumble return for touchdowns.

The Bills' addition of Edwards addresses a position of need for the Buffalo defense, with the Bills expected to have a new starting safety duo next season. Jordan Poyer signed with the Dolphins during free agency while Micah Hyde's status for 2024 remains undetermined.

Buffalo re-signed Taylor Rapp earlier in the offseason, and now add Edwards as the team continues to mold the new-look room for the 2024 season.
