Bills fans reply to 'city of losers' rant with flood of donations

'This is kind of like what we do, right? Someone takes the low road on us and we go high,' Del Reid said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Western New Yorkers know Buffalo is a special place, but we also know sometimes outsiders see it differently.

Baltimore radio host Jerry Coleman said on air, "The miserable City of Buffalo, New York. They're a city of losers. They've won nothing, whether it be the Sabres or the Bills. This is a town that is void of winners. It's a losing city."

That was just part of the rant that came in response to what Del Reid, the founder of 26 Shirts, considered to be a light-hearted Twitter dispute.

But this story isn't about what was said. It's about how Buffalo once again has reacted.

"People are gonna think what they wanna think and you can't really change that but when it comes to a real reflection of Buffalo and the Western New York region, we're called the City of Good Neighbors for a reason," Reid told 2 On Your Side.

According to the radio host's Twitter, Alzheimer's is a cause close to his heart.

So one Bills fan got the idea to donate to the Alzheimer's Association in Coleman's name.

"I followed in suit, made a donation of my own, and then I retweeted it and recommended that everybody else joined in," Reid said.

Dozens of other fans did the same, and this isn't the first time we've told a similar story.

Last November NBC Sports Chicago posted a video on Twitter calling the Bills Mafia the "laughing stock of the NFL."

In response, Bills Mafia members donated to a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides support for children with cancer called the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Again in April, Bills fans donated at least $14,000 to the Nashville Children's Alliance after a 'loss' in an online contest over which team had the best fan base.

Reid explained, "It's so much more than what goes on on the field. It's what's in our hearts and doing what we can to help our fellow man."

He added, "This is kind of like what we do, right? Someone takes the low road on us and we go high."
