Two-alarm fire in South Buffalo

First responders battled a two-alarm fire on Hopkins Street in South Buffalo Monday morning.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Firefighters had to handle a two-alarm fire on Hopkins Street in South Buffalo Monday morning.

Fire crews responded around 9 a.m. and found a quickly spreading fire, which heavily damaged two homes. Both houses will have to be demolished.

Division Fire Chief Peter Kertzie says there was an original concern that someone could have been trapped in one of the homes, but a search and check by investigators determined all residents made it out safely.

The Red Cross is assisting at least eight people including a child.
