Power Wheels cars help Oishei Hospital patients

Toy cars help patients to the operating room.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Oishei Children's Hospital showcased one of their new Fisher-Price Power Wheel cars that will help patients at the hospital Wednesday.

A specially-trained hospital staff member will control the car with a remote while the child sits in the front seat.

"We wanted to take that moment of time, that moment of anxiety and do something that would help decrease that anxiety, that fear and actually make it kind of fun," said Stephen Turkovich.

Turkovich serves as the chief medical officer at the hospital. He said when coming up with the idea for the car, the hospital wanted to come up with an innovative way to put patients at ease before a procedure.

"This is what we came up with. It's tremendously exciting, and the goal is really to have the children enter the O.R. with a smile on their face."
