Lockport mayor: retired detective to become new police chief

The police board of commissioners voted 3-1 on Wednesday night to choose Steven Abbott for the job.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — It looks like there's a new police chief in Lockport.

Mayor Michelle Roman says the city's given the job to retired detective Steven Abbott.

He's replacing former Chief Michael Niethe, who retired more than a year ago.

The police board of commissioners voted 3-1 on Wednesday night to choose Abbott for the job.
