Buffalo firefighters respond to fire at vacant house on Box Avenue

Buffalo Fire Battalion Chief Mark Hillery says the fire started in the back of the house and spread to the second story, causing $50,000 worth of damage.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Fire Department responded to a house fire on Box Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Buffalo Fire Battalion Chief Mark Hillery says the fire started in the back of the house and spread to the second story, causing $50,000 worth of damage.

Lights were on at the house when firefighters arrived, but no one was inside. Hillery says it's considered to be a vacant property.

This is the same residence where Buffalo Police discovered human remains in a fire pit earlier this year. The property is still under investigation by Buffalo Police and the FBI.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
