That money will be split across 15 different different organizations, including nearly $6 million alone for the Erie County Department of Mental Health.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Congressman Brian Higgins announced more than $12 million in federal grants to help fight homelessness in Western New York.

That money will be split across 15 different different organizations, including nearly $6 million alone for the Erie County Department of Mental Health.

"They specialize in providing programs related to mental health, substance abuse, runaway youth, and a range of other services that reach the root cause of homelessness and seek to help individuals and families," Higgins said.

According to the Homeless Alliance of Western New York, around 920 people in Western New York faced homelessness in 2019.
