What is a 'home brew' tropical storm?
As a tropical storm forms in the Gulf of Mexico this week, meteorologists have referred to it as a 'home grown' or 'home brewed' tropical storm. The complex interactions between the jet stream over North America and tropical waters during the summer can make for a stormy combination, resulting in tropical development that doesn't come from far overseas.
