Bisons Home Opener: Your Guide to What's New

The Bisons are welcoming a host of changes this season. Ballpark food, uniform additions, and a new mascot are all in the mix.

COCA-COLA FIELD — The Buffalo Bisons will open their home schedule for 2018 with a 4 game series this weekend.

For this season, the team is welcoming a wide variety of changes.

In celebration of their affiliation with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Bisons will wear baby blue caps on Sundays this year. The scripted B is the same logo used by the team 30 years ago in 1988, the first year that Coca-Cola Field was opened.

Celery's replacement will be named today at the home opener. The veggie retired from racing at the end of last season, and will now take it's place among the fans in a special area for photos. The identity of the new contestant has been kept under wraps, with only some cryptic clues left by Celery on social media.

For the hungry baseball fan, the Bisons are rolling out a host of new menu items. Shrimp po-boys, waffle-encrusted chicken sliders, apple pie logs, and a mac-n-cheese cone are all available starting today. Those can be found in various places around the ballpark.

Finally, there will be some rule changes to the actual game. The pitch clock used in previous years will be decreased when no runners are on base. On top of that, managers and catchers will only have 6 mound visits available to use in the entire game. The biggest change this year -- a game that goes to extra innings will see a runner start on second base. The last out of the previous inning will start at second, increasing the odds of either team scoring a run.

The Bisons open their season today against the Indianapolis Indians at 2:05.
