WEST SENECA, N.Y. — A charity Easter egg hunt was held Saturday morning in West Seneca served as a fundraiser for four families with children battling life-threatening illnesses.
"They are going through a lot. They have medical expenses, a lot of them have to travel out of town and so all of the money will go toward helping them with those expenses," Kimberly LaRussa told 2 On Your Side.
ThefFundraiser started last year after community members heard about a local child who needed financial help for his treatments. The first Rockin' Egg Hunt came together shortly afterward.
The second Rockin' Easter Egg Hunt was held at Harlem Road Park, and it was put together by members of Sweet Buffalo Rocks.
The group encourages painting and hiding kindness rocks around Western New York. Children at the event found an egg, then matched the number inside that egg with a painted rock that they could take home.
This year's egg hunt also attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of painted rocks.
Organizers say they'll know in a few weeks from Guinness if they achieved their goal.
