St. Patrick's Day parades in Buffalo cancelled over coronavirus

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially announced that the St. Patrick's Day parades in Buffalo this weekend will be cancelled over coronavirus concerns.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially announced that the St. Patrick's Day parades in Buffalo this weekend will be cancelled over coronavirus concerns.

The mayor met with parade organizers and talked with health officials in Erie County prior to making a decision.

Concerns over the coronavirus have already resulted in the cancellation of St. Patrick's Day parades in Dublin, Ireland, as well as New York City, Boston, Chicago and Pittsburgh.

The 27th annual "Old Neighborhood" St. Patrick's Day Parade was expected to be held on Saturday and the St. Patrick's Day Parade along Delaware Avenue was scheduled for Sunday.

The "Old Neighborhood" St. Patrick's Day Parade will be rescheduled for September 19, according to organizer Peg Overdorf.

In addition, officials with Larkin Square announced that Friday night's Live at O'Larkin event has been cancelled.
