Tuesday's severe thunderstorm threat has ended for WNY

A few isolated downpours are possible through late tonight, but strong winds are no longer expected.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The trend for active weather this month will continue right up until the end. A broken line of thunderstorms came through earlier this afternoon with more expected for Thursday.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued late this morning for the entire region as a line of storms developed over Southern Ontario. That line weakened very quickly thanks to a strong "shadowing" effect from Lake Erie. Storms did briefly strengthen again over the Southern Tier around 3 p.m., but no damage has been reported.

Lingering storms will move out of the region by dinnertime. There may still be some scattered downpours later this evening, but without the afternoon sun and energy it provides, storms will likely not be severe.
