Clean-up continues following wind storm that brought down trees and power lines

All advisories have been allowed to expire, but breezy conditions will last through Monday night.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Winds have weakened considerably since Sunday afternoon, but it will still be breezy Monday night with some gusts reaching 35 mph. That wind combined with cold air will bring bitter cold wind chills through Tuesday morning.

With winds finally settling down, Lake Erie's levels have been able to slowly recede. That has greatly reduced the amount of ice being forced onto shorelines and into the Niagara River.

Despite the ice boom breaking and ice freely flowing into the Niagara River Sunday night, there are currently no immediate concerns for flooding. Ice breakers have been working the area Monday and the river is able to flow freely to Niagara Falls.

Lake Erie lost about 4% of it's ice cover to the winds but with temperatures expected to stay in the 20s or lower most of this week, more ice is expected to form.

The lake remains open enough for some lake effect snow showers to continue south of Buffalo Monday evening. Additional accumulations should range from 2 to 4 inches. A few light showers are possible Tuesday morning.
