Storm knocks out power to thousands overnight

Nearly 6,000 National Grid and NYSEG customers are waking up in the dark following Tuesday night's storm.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thousands of people are waking up without power following the heavy storms that moved through Western New York Tuesday night.

According to the NYSEG website, There are now just 54 outages in Erie County. Most of them are in the Town and Village of Orchard Park. Earlier in the morning, there was over 1,000 customers without power.

National Grid is also working to repair outages. According to the company's website, the largest outages are in Erie, Allegany and Cattaraugus counties. In Erie, there are 1,065 customers without power; mostly in the the Grand Island, Tonawanda and Blasdell areas. In Cattaraugus, there are 611 customers without power, mostly in Ellicottville and Franklinville.That's down from 1,421 outages earlier Wednesday morning.  In Allegany, there are 104 customers without power, most of them in the area near Cuba. Earlier in the morning, there was 2,016 customers without power.
