Storm easing, but not over completely

The "main event" rain and snow has ended, but pesky lake effect showers will last through Saturday.

Buffalo, NY — Despite the main storm wrapping up in the Northeast, snow chances continue for a couple more days in Western New York. For the rest of the day Friday, lake effect precipitation will come in the form of a mix of rain and snow.

The better chance of snow is away from the lakeshore while areas closer to Lake Erie will get some rain mixing in. Accumulations will be minimal near the water. An additional 2 to 4 inches is possible in higher elevations of the snow belts south of Buffalo.

A weak cold front will cut through the Eastern Great Lakes region Saturday into Sunday, re-igniting the chance for snow showers for the entire region. Temperatures early Saturday will once again dance right on the freezing line. That means a mix of rain and snow is likely during the afternoon with snow becoming more likely Saturday evening as temperatures drop. Some snow showers will last through midday Sunday. Accumulations this weekend will top out in the 1 to 3 inch range.

The extended forecast looks promising for Thanksgiving travelers. The storminess should subside for a few days and temperatures will rebound into the upper 40s.
