Coldest air of the season arrives in WNY

After what's been a forgettable winter with a lack of abundant snow and frigid cold, some of the coldest air of 2020 arrived Friday.

Western New York woke up Friday to below zero wind chills and temperatures in the single digits.

While that is not typically a rare occurrence, it is for the 2019-2020 winter season. This is the first time in the 2019-2020 season where temperatures reached the single digits, and could be the only as well.

Data shows this winter has yet to hold up to the typical winter experience in Western New York. This past January was the ninth warmest on record for Buffalo and the region is around 15 inches behind in snow accumulations.

As for the cold on Valentine's Day, this is the second latest occurrence on record to experience single digit temperatures in the wintertime months. The record in this case is held by March 2, 1932.
