Beach Hazard Statement issued for Niagara and Orleans counties Friday

Strong currents, dangerous swimming conditions and 3 to 4 foot wave heights are expected along the shores of Lake Ontario Friday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — National Weather Service issued marine weather alerts to warn of less than ideal conditions ahead of what could be a busy day for boaters Friday 

A Beach Hazard Statement is in effect until 2 a.m. Saturday for Niagara and Orleans counties. Boaters and swimmers are advised to be aware of the potential for strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions along the shores of Lake Ontario. 

Lake Ontario wave heights are also expected to range between 3 to 4 feet Friday with a northerly breeze that could gust up to 30 knots at times.

Lake Erie wave heights will be between 1 to 2 feet with winds out of the west at 10 to 20 knots.
